Professional Standards
The Bureau of Professional Standards includes Internal Affairs, Private Security, Audit Advisory Unit, Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), St. Louis Police Academy and Human Resources. Lt. Col. Reggie Harris joined the Metropolitan Police Department as a Police Officer on April, 23, 1979. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in December of 1988. As a Sergeant, he served as a District supervisor of patrol officers, an investigator in the Department’s Internal Affairs Division and as the Commander of the Department’s Private Security Section. Lt. Col. Harris was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in September of 1994. He served as a platoon Commander in the Second and Third District, Executive Aide to the Chief of Police and as Commander of the Juvenile Division. In June of 2000, Lt. Col. Harris was promoted to the rank of Captain. He served as Commander of the Department’s Internal Affairs Division. In November of 2003, Lt. Col Harris was promoted to the rank of Major. From 2003 until early 2007, Lt. Col. Harris served as the Area Major for the North Patrol Division. He was promoted to his current rank in February of 2007 and briefly served as Commander of Auxiliary Services before being assigned Commander of the Bureau of Patrol Support. Lt. Col. Harris began his current role as the Commander of the Bureau of Professional Standards in 2009. Lt. Col. Harris is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master of Arts Degree in the field of Legal Studies, both from Webster University. He also has a certificate in Paralegal Studies. During his career as a law enforcement professional, Col. Harris has earned four prestigious Chief’s Letters of Commendation and multiple awards of excellence for his outstanding performance. Lt. Col. Harris is married to Monica, who is a school teacher and they have two sons, Justin and Ryan. Lt. Col. Harris is a member of the West Side Missionary Baptist Church where he serves as a Deacon. He currently serves as the Immediate Past President of the FBI National Academy Associates Eastern District of Missouri. |
