Officers Vineyard and Absher arrived at a scene after receiving a call for a subject attempting to break into a home. The officers noticed there were foot prints in the snow by the area where the suspect had entered the home. The officers followed the foot prints and were able to locate as suspect whose shoe print matched the ones they had followed. The suspect was arrested and the Circuit Attorney’s Office issued warrants for 1st degree Burglary. During another incident, Officers Absher and Vineyard arrested a suspect who they saw attempting to break into a car.

February – Officers of the Month Stephanie Rogers and Mark Meyers

March – Police Officer David Haynes (awarded posthumously)
Just before 10 a.m. on March 24, police received a call for a burglary in progress in the 5400 block of Bancroft, where the victim walked into the residence and discovered the suspect inside. The suspect fled from the scene but the victim was able to describe the suspect and the suspect’s vehicle.

Moments later, officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle but then lost sight of it. Officer David Haynes later spotted the vehicle. He turned on his lights and siren in an attempt to stop the suspect vehicle but the suspect did not pull over and continued to flee. The officer continued to follow the suspect vehicle and as the officer went through the intersection at Oleatha and Kingshighway, his patrol car was struck by an SUV on the patrol car’s passenger side. The patrol car spun out, causing the patrol car’s driver side to crash into the front of a second SUV. That SUV then hit another small passenger sedan.

The officer was trapped in his patrol vehicle for a short time but once he was able to be removed, he was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Officer Haynes gave his life for the safety and well being of the citizens of St. Louis.

April – Police Officer of the Month Mark Keisker
Officer Keisker was on patrol when he saw a car in a gas station parking lot that matched the description of one stolen earlier that week.
