Major Daniel Howard joined the Metropolitan Police Department as a Police Officer on December 7, 1987. After graduating the Academy he served in Eighth District, Second District, Warrant & Fugitive and Vice Divisions. While serving in the Vice Division, he was promoted to Sergeant on January 21, 1998.

While he was in the rank of Sergeant he served in the Third District, Internal Affairs Division until October of 2003 when he was promoted to Lieutenant. In the rank of Lieutenant he served in the First District and Communication Division as Deputy Commander until February 2010 when he was promoted to Captain. In the position of Captain he was assigned to the Fourth District as the Deputy Commander.

On September 30, 2015, Captain Howard was promoted to Major and has served as the Commander of the Bureau of Auxiliary Services and the Bureau of Community Policing. On November 18th, 2019, Major Howard was assigned the Central Patrol Division where he currently serves as the area Commander.

Major Howard holds an Associate degree in Criminal Justice from State Community College. He also has a Bachelor’s degree in Management from Webster University.
